All Audiology & Balance Services at ENT Clinic:
First: Hearing Assessments
- Central Auditory Test
A visual representation of hearing results that focuses on how the central auditory nervous system processes sounds.
It aims to:
- Detect any disorder in sound processing within the brain
- Which may lead to:
- Difficulty understanding speech
- Difficulty distinguishing different sounds
- Audiometry – PTA (Pure Tone Audiometry)
A test that evaluates a person’s ability to hear sounds at different intensities (decibels) and frequencies (hertz). Helps determine the degree and type of hearing loss.
- Aided Pure Tone Audiometry
A test performed while the patient is wearing their hearing device (hearing aid or cochlear implant).
**Used for: **
- Evaluating the effectiveness of the device
- Measuring the actual hearing levels obtained during real use
- Tinnitus Matching Tests
**These tests help in: **
- Identifying the cause of tinnitus
- Determining the frequency and intensity of the tinnitus
- Planning the appropriate treatment
- Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE)
A test that evaluates the function of the hair cells inside the cochlea.
**Performed by: **
- Measuring tiny sound waves produced by the cochlea in response to auditory stimuli
**The test is: **
- Quick
- Non-invasive
- Commonly used for newborn hearing screening
- Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
A computerized test that measures brain activity in response to sound stimulation.
**Used for: **
- Assessing hearing in infants
- Evaluating patients who cannot perform standard hearing tests
**The test shows: **
- How the inner ear functions
- The efficiency of auditory nerve and brainstem pathways
- Tympanometry
A test that evaluates middle ear function by measuring the movement of the eardrum in response to changes in air pressure.
**Helps diagnose: **
- Middle ear effusion (fluid)
- Middle ear infections
- Eardrum perforations
- Eustachian Tube Function Tests
**A set of tests used to: **
- Assess middle ear ventilation
- Diagnose pressure imbalance disorders
- Prepare patients for ear surgeries that require Eustachian tube evaluation
Second: Balance Assessments:
- VEMP (Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential)
- A test that measures the function of the vestibular system responsible for balance inside the inner ear.
**Based on: ** Recording muscle responses to sound stimulation
**Used to evaluate: **
- Vestibular nerve function
- Balance-related disorders
- VNG (Videonystagmography)
A series of tests used to determine the strength and cause of dizziness and imbalance.
**Helps differentiate between: **
- Peripheral vertigo (originating from the ear)
- Central vertigo (originating from the brain – balance center)
**It is essential for: **
- Starting accurate treatment
- Relieving chronic dizziness symptoms
Third: Hearing Programming & Rehabilitation:
- Cochlear Implant Mapping
- Hearing Aid Programming
- Hearing Aid Benefit Evaluation
A test used to measure the actual hearing improvement after using a hearing aid or cochlear implant, ensuring optimal clinical outcomes. It includes adjusting hearing aid settings to provide the most comfortable and clear hearing experience.
